

Richard “Mac” McLaren, age 85, of Plain City, Ohio, passed away Sunday, August 17, 2014. He was born April 4, 1929 to the late Thomas and Elizabeth McLaren. He was a 1947 graduate of Hillsboro H.S. where be played baseball and basketball and served on the reunion committee for many years. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War from 1950-1954. Mac retired from Bob Evans Farms, Inc. after 35 years. He began there as one of the first Route Salesmen, traveling throughout 22 states opening and serving new markets. He worked his way up to Senior VP Director of Sales and Marketing and member of the Board of Directors. Mac ran the Bob Evans booth at the Ohio State Fair for many years. He loved classic cars and attending car shows as well as gardening. Mac was always involved with his grandchildren’s activities. He was a man of high integrity and values; genuine and humble. Mac was referred to as a “gentle giant”. He never met a stranger and will be remembered for the smile that was always on his face. In addition to his parents, Mac was preceded in death by his wife, Mairlyn L. (Burns) McLaren; brother, Thomas Oliver McLaren, II; and his beloved grandson, Ryan Michael Salmons. Mac will be missed by his loving daughter, Robin Bowman and granddaughter, Alaina Salmons. Family will receive friends Friday, August 22, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 N. High St., Worthington (Just south of I-270) where the funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Samantha Methodist Cemetery, Samantha, Ohio.
