

Born in Schenectady, N.Y. December 13th 1928, Richard Westover, passed away on April 10th 2011. Richard, served as a lab technician in the Army from 1947 to1950. The GI bill empowered him to pay for college and he received his Bachelor’s in Psychology in 1953 and his Masters in Education in 1956 from Syracuse University. Richard Westover was a man who always put the needs of others before his own. He loved teaching and took time to cheer on former students at Dayton, Oregon football games. He enjoyed talking with other residents and teachers about what his students were currently doing. “I really liked my little munchkins” he used to say. Richard taught 2nd grade at Dayton Elementary from 1973 to 1992. Prior to that he taught at Red Creek Central in Fair Haven, N.Y from 1958 to 1972. Richard is predeceased by his wife, Patricia (Barnes) Westover and his son Paul Westover. After the death of his son he moved to Gahanna, Ohio to be closer to his daughter. He is survived by his daughter, Wendy son-in-law, Mahesh Wijegunawardana, granddaughter, Theena and grandson Yogesh. A Celebration of Life Service, with military honors, will be held at 3pm Saturday April 16, 2011 at the Schoedinger Northeast Chapel, 1051 East Johnstown Road (at Beecher Rd.) Gahanna Ohio, where the family will receive friends from 2pm Saturday until service. Private family interment.
