

Richard William Wirth, age 98, of Columbus, Ohio 43230, passed away on April 17, 2019, after a brief hospitalization. He was born on October 19, 1920 in Gary, IN to the late Stanley and Adelle Wirth. He was 1 of 8 children.
Richard graduated from Horace Mann High School and then went into Military Service in the United States Coast Guard. He served as a Motor Machinist Mate during WWll, departing for Pearl Harbor on the USS LST-770, Flotilla 29, Group 87, 173 Division. Richard received his honorable discharged in 1946 after a 3 ½ year enlistment.
He married, raised a family of 4 children while working at United States Steel, Gary Works, as an Industrial Engineer. After retirement from a successful career, he had residencies in Florida and Ohio.
Richard enjoyed boating, golf, occasional horseback riding and weekend social gatherings. He remained a parishioner throughout his lifetime.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; his parents; and Ralph, his eldest son in 2014.
He is survived by his children, Barbara Ayres; Daniel Wirth; Donna (Jerry) Shelton; Debbie Wirth; Sandra Ayres; Jennifer Lira and Louis Wirth.
A Graveside Service will be at Dayton National Cemetery, 4400 W Third St, Dayton, OH 45428 on April 29, 2019 at 1:45pm
