

Robert H. (Bob) Dent, 69, of Ashville, Ohio, saddled his horse and took his last ride on Saturday, May 4, 2013. He passed at Mt. Carmel West Hospital following a lengthy hospitalization. Born December 17, 1943, to the late Robert J. and Mary Young Dent, bob was a January of 1962 graduate of Columbus West High School. He is a veteran of the United States Navy and served his Country during the Viet Nam War. He was retired from the Columbus Police Department where he worked as a "beat cop", was a member of the D Platoon, SWAT team, burglary squad, and one of the first members of the Mounted Unit. He served as the head-training officer for the Mounted Unit. His love of horses led him from an avocation to a vocation as he served as Paddock Manager for horse shows throughout the United States and Germany. He was a regular at the annual All American Quarter Horse Congress. He is a life member of the West High School Alumni Association, the Fraternal Order of Police, the OQHA NRHA, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Tom Wells; nephew, Jason Dent and Niece, Kelly Wells. He was a loving and caring dad, grandfather, and brother who will be greatly missed. Bob is survived by his three sons, Robert M. (Leslie), Jon (Debbie), Micah (Karen); grandchildren, Cade, Cael, Cullen, Conlan, Billy, Jamie, Tyler, Stephanie, Shane and Kyle; sister, Sharon (Paul) Pennell; brother, Dan (Susan) Dent; nephews, Bob Wells and Travis Dent; special aunt, Lorna Wylie and Ruth Parrett; former wife, Sandy Dent; loving longtime companion, Judith Castle, and special friends Candy Vogel and Lisa Fry. Numerous other cousins, relatives and friends. The family wishes to extend our gratitude to Candy Vogel for her unselfish and caring devotion to our Dad. God has a great new cowboy! Visitation will be held from 2-8pm on Tuesday May 7, 2013 at the SCHOEDINGER GROVE CITY CHAPEL 3920 Broadway, where the funeral service will be held on Wednesday May 8, 2013 at 10 am.
