

Ronald W. Eifert (Ron), age 85, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2019 surrounded by his family. He was born April 28, 1934 in Dayton, OH, the son of the late Arnold and Doris (Schnabel) Eifert. He was a graduate of St. Charles Preparatory School and the University of Dayton, with a degree in Civil Engineering. Ron is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Sharon (Walker), daughters Laura (Larry) Smore and Ellen DiPaolo, son Dan (Jamie) Eifert, and preceded in death by his son John Eifert. He had six grandchildren: Stephanie (John) Adams, Lindsay Smore, John Eifert, Courtney Smore, Mark Eifert, and Drake DiPaolo.
The oldest of six children, he is survived by siblings Judy (Tom) Baldacci, Susan (Jerry) Weitzel, Neil (Sharon) Eifert, Linda (Dick) Hammond, and Jeanne (Jim) Clark, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Ron was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Worthington for 57 years, tirelessly volunteering on the yearly festival, building and renovation committees, and the Knights of Columbus. Ron had a very deep-rooted faith and was a devout Catholic, as well as a dedicated husband, father and grandfather.
A Professional Engineer, he worked at Burgess and Niple and Columbus Engineering Consultants, and was a Partner at Korda/Nemeth Engineering until his retirement in 2009. Ron was involved in several professional organizations, including the American Society of Civil Engineers, the National Society of Professional Engineers, Engineers Foundation of Ohio, Consulting Engineers of Ohio, and the Worthington Civic Association. A past president and former editor of publications for the Franklin County chapter of the Ohio Society of Professional Engineers (OSPE), he was honored as a Life Member of the Engineers Club of Columbus and with the Ohio Society of Professional Engineers Meritorious Service Award.
Athletic and always active, Ron coached and played softball in Worthington for over 50 years. He was a Worthington Little League baseball coach, umpired middle and high school baseball games into his 80's, and was a member of the Home Plate Club. He played softball in various leagues in Columbus and Worthington until age 83, when two hip replacements sidelined him. He also enjoyed golf, gardening, cheering for the Buckeyes and his beloved Flyers, and above all, spending time with his cherished family.
Visitation will be held Sunday, December 1 from 3-6PM at the Schoedinger Worthington Chapel, 6699 North High Street. The funeral mass will be held at 10AM on Monday, December 2 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 5750 North High Street. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Lewis Center.
