

Ruth Charlotte Smiley Wilson went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 17, 2019 at the age of 98. Ruth was born July 15, 1920 to the Rev. S.H. Berger, a pastor with the CMH Church for 50 years and Hattie Grace Gordon Berger. Ruth graduated from Youngstown University in 1946 with a bachelor's degree then went on to spend 25 years in elementary education mostly with Columbus Public Schools. Ruth was the pianist in numerous churches throughout her life and served the Lord in many other capacities. She loved everything about being a mother and indeed was an amazing one full of unconditional love. She was a caregiver at heart and considered it God's purpose for her to care for her family and others. She was preceded in death by both parents, her sister Esther Louise Berger Glann, husband Raymond B. Smiley, husband John O. Wilson and step-son David Wilson. She is survived by her children Rev. Larry (Connie) Smiley, Susan Zapara, step-children Gayle (Ron) Morgan, Craig (Helen) Wilson and Loren (Tamme) Wilson; grandchildren Nikki Smiley, Tommy Smiley, Kendra (Wayne) Keenan, Evan (Kristin ) Morgan, Amanda (Jason) Duley, Michael (Marie Claire)Wilson, Tammy (Jared) Glass, Tiffany (Brian) Gaffney, Tabitha Ganut; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family will receive visitors at the Heart and Hope Funeral home 3030 West Broad Street, Columbus, OH on Thursday, February 21, 2019 from 5 - 7 PM. Funeral services will take place Friday February 22, 2019 at 10:30 AM at the Westminster Presbyterian Church 222 Schoolhouse Lane, Columbus, Ohio with an additional viewing one hour prior to the service. A private burial will take place at Sunset Cemetery in Galloway, Ohio. If desired, donations may be made to Capital City Hospice.
