Born on February 9, 1943, in Cambridge, Ohio, Sandy was the daughter of Vernon and Norma Secrest. Her early years in Senecaville laid the foundation for a life marked by dedication, warmth, and a sharp wit that endeared her to all who knew her.
Sandy built a diverse and accomplished career spanning three decades across banking, real estate, and healthcare. Her professional journey culminated with her retirement from Huntington Bank in 2000.
Beyond her career achievements, Sandy was deeply devoted to her family. She shared a loving marriage with her husband, James Carter who she wed in 1964. Together they raised two children: James Carter II and Jennifer Abbott. Sandy also welcomed son-in-law David Abbott into the family in 1992. Her pride and joy were her grandsons, Grant and Ryan Abbott, whose lives she enriched with affection and humor. She also leaves behind her dear sister, Dixie Gerrick, and brother, Joe (Linda) Secrest.
Those who knew Sandy remember her as observant and loving with a wonderful sense of humor—a woman whose presence brought both comfort and laughter. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose legacy will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Norma Secrest, and brother-in-law, Frank Gerrick.
A private service will be held to honor Sandy’s life.
