

Thomas Carroll Diehl, Sr. Diehl, Sr, Thomas C, 82, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away on Aug. 21, 2011 at Wesley Glen Nursing Home in Columbus, OH. Mr. Diehl was born on March 26, 1929 in Hagerstown, MD. He was the son of the late Pomeroy D. Diehl and Francina M. (Carroll) Diehl. He married Rita Ann Malamphy on Aug. 6, 1949 in Hagerstown, MD. They had 7 children in Hagerstown MD and after relocating to Columbus, OH had their eighth child. Mr. & Mrs. Diehl were employed by North American Rockwell/Aviation. Tom Diehl was a supervisor in the area of Engineering Planning until retiring in 1988. Upon Mrs. Diehl’s retirement, the couple spent many winters in their second home in Naples, FL. Mr. Diehl was preceded in death by his parents (above) and his brother Christopher Carroll Diehl of Duffy, CO. His second son, Stephen M. Diehl of Columbus, died in Feb, 1973. Mr. Diehl is survived by his sister, Francina (Carroll) Chapman of Philadelphia, PA, cousin Tom Hiestand of Oak Harbor, WA, cousin Margie (Diehl) Kneisley and several other cousins in PA. He is also survived by his children, Thomas C. Diehl, Jr. (Susan) of Dripping Springs, TX, David A. Diehl (Debbie) of Columbus, Gerald N. Diehl (Julie) of Westerville, Susan A. Diehl of Columbus, Edward A. Diehl (Kim) of Parma, OH, John G. Diehl (Carrie) of Shelbyville, KY, and Patricia A. O’Connor (Chris) of Livonia, MI. His 17 surviving grandchildren include: Angela Diehl, Amy (Diehl) Gill, Krista Merritt, Emily Diehl, Joshua Diehl, Zachary Diehl, Nicole Diehl, Rachael (Diehl) Hays, Jadon Diehl, Hannah (Diehl) Fabish, Stephen Diehl, Aubrey Diehl, Traci Diehl, Michael Diehl, Alex O’Connor, Erin O’Connor, and Lauren O’Connor. Great-grandchildren are Kale Sanders-Merritt, Archer Gill, Violet Gill, and Owen Fabish. Chelsea and Joshua Diehl and Jake and Hannah Fabish will soon be the proud parents of two more great-grandchildren in Mr. Diehl’s lineage. Tom was a loving spouse, a dedicated and responsible father, and an affectionate grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a devout Christian and donated to the support of his church. Mr. and Mrs. Diehl were excellent examples in teaching their children the importance of having a strong moral fiber. His hobbies included vegetable gardening, stamp collecting, square dancing, shuffleboard, and playing cards. He was a member of his high school football and boxing teams. The family wishes to express special thanks and heart-felt appreciation to Sue, for her personal care and dedication.
