Venie Vawters

Venie M. Vawters, age 98, formerly of Columbus and Bladensburg, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 24, 2022. Venie was born on April 6, 1924 in Lewis County, Kentucky to Frank and Donie Davis. Venie worked as a Librarian and Administrative Assistant for 18 ½ years at Battelle Memorial Institute. She graduated from the Citizens Police Academy in Columbus. She was a former member of Hillcrest Baptist Church for 46 years, board member of Friends of the Hilltop, President of PTA, volunteered with the Parkinson’s Association and worked as an ambassador at Schoedinger Hilltop Chapel. After moving to be closer to her family, she was a member of Perry Chapel Baptist Church, tutored children and took care of the Box Tops at First Knox Elementary School. Venie was very handy and could do just about anything. She loved to sew, quilt and garden. Preceded in death by her husband, Harold in 1997; brother, Junior F. Davis; sisters, Darlene Dittrich and Pauline Elliott; sister-in-law, Glenna Davis. Survived by her son, Stephen R. (Holly) Vawters; grandchildren, Randsford “Randy” (Jenny) Vawters and Maggie (Danielle Rowlen) Vawters; great grandchildren, Khaleah, Christian and Zachary; sister, Gladys Haner brother, Phillip Davis; many other relatives and friends including, Norma, Joretta and Nancy. Visitation will be held 10-11:00 am on Monday, August 29, 2022 at Heart and Hope by Schoedinger Funeral Home, 3030 W. Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio 43204 where funeral service will follow at 11:00 am with Robert Cassady and Tim Lee officiating. Interment Wesley Chapel Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at 7:00 pm on Monday, August 29, 2022 at Perry Chapel Baptist Church, 19476 Township Rd. 380, Warsaw, Ohio 43844.
