
Born on October 1, 1928, in Sunbury, Ohio, Bill lived a life rich with love, service, and dedication. He was the cherished son of James and Carrie (Roach) Chesser, and he carried their spirit of kindness and resilience throughout his life.
Bill graduated from Gahanna Lincoln High School in 1947, marking his first step in a lifetime of achievements. Shortly after, he embraced his sense of duty by enlisting in the United States Army, where he was promoted to 1st Lieutenant during the Korean Conflict from 1950 to 1953. His bravery earned him the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, the United Nations Service Medal, and the National Defense Medal.
On September 30, 1950, just before his military service, Bill marries his true love, Mamie Lou Starr. The couple celebrated a remarkable 74 years of marriage, during which they created many happy and cherished memories.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Jesse Chesser, Elwood Chesser, James Chesser Jr., Charles “Chuck” Chesser; sisters Mary “Margaret” Nesser, Vivian Dersoon, and Lillian Davis. He is survived by his wife Mamie, sister Ila Gene Brown, and brother Jack Chesser.

Bill embraced life with a positive spirit, enjoying the simple pleasures, such as playing cards and entertaining family and friends. He dedicated many years to their farm in Granville and ventured into developing housing communities, where his keen sense for investing flourished. He was a familiar face in his community, actively involved with the 4-H in Ohio, the American Legion, and the St. John’s Methodist Church in Winter Have, Florida.
Bill’s life will be celebrated at a graveside service on Monday, June 30, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, 5600 E. Broad St, Columbus, OH 43213, where he will be laid to rest.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donation be made to the VA or the local Humane Society, honoring Bill’s legacy of service and compassion.
His laughter, wisdom, and unwavering love will be profoundly missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
