

William E. Ferris MD, 84, of Dublin, formerly of Upper Arlington died peacefully Monday, May 18th, 2015 at his residence. William was born May 24, 1931 in Delaware, Ohio to Edmund and Anna Margaret Ferris. He graduated from St. Mary's High School in Delaware, received his BS degree from University of Dayton, then his MD from University of Cincinnati. He completed his medical internship at St. Joseph's Hospital in Flint, Michigan and then served in the Indian Health Service in Rapid City, South Dakota. Following his service, William joined Thomas P. Wangler, MD in the practice of medicine on South High Street in German Village, later moving his practice to South Front Street. He was on the staff of Mercy, Mount Carmel and St. Ann's Hospitals and retired after 40 years of practice. He was a Charter Fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice, the Founding Director of the Family Practice Residency Program at Mt. Carmel Hospital and the Chairman of the Mt. Carmel Family Practice Department from 1973-1979. William was a member of the American Academy of Family Practice, the Ohio State Medical Association and the Franklin County Medical Society. He was a member of St. Agatha Catholic Church over 50 years, a Life Member of Scioto Country Club and a former member of the Hide-A-Way Hills Club, Ohio State Golf Club and Oakhurst Country Club. He is survived by his wife, Mary K. Ferris; children, Julia (Lawrence) Ray, Ann (Hamid) Shoaee, Mary (John) McCabe and Andrew (Seana) Ferris; grandchildren, Christopher Ray, Ethan Ray, Genevieve McCabe, Griffin McCabe, George Ferris, William Ferris and Andrew Ferris; and his sister, Patricia Ann Ferris. Funeral Mass will be held 2:00 pm Thursday, May 28, 2015 at St. Agatha Catholic Church, 1860 Northam Road, with Fr. Daniel Ochs, Celebrant.
