We are sad to announce the passing of our father, William “Bill” Albert Lewis, Jr. of Blacklick, Ohio. Our father passed away on January 29, 2026, just weeks after his 95th birthday. He was a lifelong resident of the Columbus area and raised his family in Reynoldsburg. Bill was born January 3,1931 to William Albert Lewis, Sr. and Dorothy Mildred Lewis. He was a devoted husband to Maxine Mae (Bobst) and a loving father to his children, Jody, John and Jeff.
Dad was dedicated and hard-working. As a young man he was drafted into the Army during the Korean war, but was lucky to serve in Europe, away from significant danger. After discharge from the Army he spent 31 years working at Ohio Bell. He started as an installer and worked his way up to management. He retired in 1986 at the age of 55, but was bored after a year and found a part-time delivery job that he worked at for another 20 years. Despite his many responsibilities, he always found time for his family and his passions.
Though Dad may not have liked being the center of attention, he deserves to have his long years of fatherly love honored. He was a quiet, kind man with a great sense of humor and he left a lasting impact on everyone that knew him. He selflessly cared for our mother through her later years as she suffered with dementia, then continued living alone for the past 10 years.
Dad’s hobbies and interests helped define who he was. He enjoyed playing in bowling leagues and card clubs, but he especially loved golf. Rather than become a “golf widow”, Mom also took up golf in their middle years. Their many golf vacations took them to places like Myrtle Beach with a large group of friends and was a great source of enjoyment for both of them.
Bill’s friends and family will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine, granddaughter, Megan, and sisters, Alice, Phyllis and Helen. He is survived by his children, Jody (John) Cain, John (Jodi) and Jeff (Jenny). His grandchildren are James, Ryann, Makayla, Grae and Allie and great- granddaughter, Winnie.
Family will receive friends from 10AM-12PM followed by a funeral service on February 5, 2024 at 12PM at the Schoedinger East funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Wounded Warrior Project, Paralyzed Veterans of America, Make A Wish Foundation or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, all causes close to Dad’s heart.
We find comfort in knowing that Dad’s legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories we will cherish forever.
