

Agnes M. Stephens of New City entered into eternal life on July 18, 2012 with her family by her side. Agnes was born December 16, 1922 in New York, NY to Edward X. and Anna (Frewen) Dziowgo. She has been a Rockland resident for over 50 years and worked at Grand Union as a "cute" checker. Agnes shared 60 years of marriage with her late husband Charles V. Stephens who predeceased her in 2007. She was an original parishioner of St. Augustine's Church since it was a Mission Church. Agnes was a member of the original Columbianettes at St. Augustine's and also worked for the Board of Elections. She was a cancer survivor until the disease came back at the age of 88 where God had sent her a "forever friend", Yvonne to help her face the challenges ahead. Agnes always prepared food for those who couldn't care for themselves. She will be forever missed by all who knew and loved her.
Agnes is survived by her daughters, Theresa Jelcic and her husband Paul, Agnes Bowen and her husband John, Lorraine Wade and her husband Greg, Celeste Fitzpatrick and her husband Brian, Judy Costanzi and her husband Al; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call today 2-4 and 7-9pm at the Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home, 113 Lake Road East, Congers, NY. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered Saturday 11am at St. Augustine's Church, New City, NY. Burial to follow at Frederick Loescher Veterans Cemetery, New Hempstead, NY.
