Obituary of Jerry Floyd
Mr. Jerry Ray Floyd, 80, of Connersville died Thursday, August 26, 2021, at home surrounded by his loving family. Jerry was born to Harold “Pinky” and Esther (Lutz) Floyd on October 21, 1940 in Connersville, Indiana, and was a lifelong resident. Jerry graduated from Connersville High School and attended trade school in Indianapolis. He worked at Allison Transmission in Indianapolis for a period of time; he also worked at D & M prior to their shutdown where he was among the last people to draw a paycheck. He then worked at Visteon, where he retired as a journeyman electrician. Jerry was a veteran of the United States Navy, stationed stateside during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the V.F.W as well as a lifetime member of the AMVETS Post 11. He was also a member of the Moose Club. Jerry loved dogs and was a breeder of miniature schnauzers. He loved motorcycles and sports cars. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially the salmon fishing trips he took with his friends. Above all, Jerry loved spending time with his family. He will be deeply missed by all that know him. Jerry is survived by three daughters; Rhonda Floyd Messer of Connersville, Melissa Floyd (husband Grant) O’Neal of Connersville, and Stacey Floyd Gribbins (significant other Mike Dennis) of Elkhart, Indiana; One son, Zachery Floyd (significant other Valeriie Shoemaker) of Batesville, Indiana; One step-daughter Lisa Smith, of Laurel, Indiana; Two sisters Sally Mitchell and Susan Frasur, both of Liberty, Indiana; 13 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents; his stepson Greg Halcomb; a brother Ronnie Floyd, and a brother in law Dallas Mitchell. A memorial service will be held at the AMVETS Post 11, 1413 N. Eastern Ave, Connersville, Indiana Saturday September 4, 2021 at 12:00 Noon, with a reception to follow until 4:00 p.m. Burial at Dale Cemetery will take place at a later date. Showalter Blackwell Long, Myers Chapel, Connersville is privileged to arrange the services. Memorial contributions may be to The Fayette County Animal Shelter in Jerry’s honor.
