Elizabeth Wolfer

(Dale) Elizabeth Beatrice Prieur Wolfer was born Dec. 19, 1923 to Felix Charles Prieur II and his wife Beatrice “Bert” Wussow Prieur in Little Rock, AR. She died April 20, 2018 in Perryville, AR at the age of 94, peacefully with her children by her side.

Elizabeth was the “baby” of her family. She was a “Daddy’s girl” and was nicknamed “Ebbie” by her brothers Felix Jr. and William Allan. She was a devout Catholic, belonging to Good Counsel, Holy Souls and St. Boniface parishes during her lifetime. She was a graduate of Mt. St. Mary’s and attended Business School after graduation.

Elizabeth’s first job out of school was working for the Selective Service, lining up young men to fight in WWII. Little did she know then that her family was destined to become a Gold Star family when her oldest brother Felix Jr. was killed in April 1945 in France.

In 1946 she married Alfred Joseph Wolfer, Jr- a decorated WWII Army veteran. He was a native of Chicago, IL who was assigned to Little Rock after being engaged in 3 combat campaigns in the Pacific. The young couple bought a home in 1947 on North Taylor Street down the hill two blocks from Holy Souls, at the edge of west Little Rock. North Taylor was several blocks east of Hays Street, a dirt road now called University Ave. It was there they raised their two children…both of whom were graduates of Holy Souls, Mount St. Mary’s and Catholic High School. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader and enjoyed fishing and camping trips with her family. Her flowerbeds at the home were amazing.

She came from a fishing family…spending numerous weekends in small boats with her husband and son, while her daughter was in a boat with Ebbie’s Daddy, Felix. Family pictures include strings of crappie and bream. She even caught a trophy bass off the dock at her Harris Brake home!

Her husband, known as Al, died in 1973. She retired from federal government service in 1987. Upon retirement, she moved to Harris Brake Lake in Perry County, Arkansas to a lake home she and her husband had built over the years and visited every weekend. Once again her flowerbeds were amazing and her gardens thrived.

In Perryville she was active in the Home Extension Club and the Senior Adult Center. She also volunteered at the nearby Heifer Project. She enjoyed being in the National Forrest, traveling, fishing, painting, country dancing and was a Master Gardener. She was a child of the Great Depression and never met an item that could not be re-purposed or re-cycled. She was an independent woman from a long line of independent hard working people. She did not complain and she made the best of every situation. She was able to live alone at the lake until Dec. 11, 2017 when she made her new home at Perry County Nursing and Rehab Center.

Her survivors include son Joe Wolfer of Perryville, Arkansas; daughter Carol Mobley (Bryce) of Dover, Arkansas, grandson JB Mobley (Jennifer) and two great granddaughters Kenley and Jacey all of Conway, Arkansas. Other family members include nieces and nephews Chuck Prieur and his son Christopher Prieur of Little Rock, Arkansas; Annette (Kenny) Kirby of Heber Springs, Arkansas, Denise Perrymore of Little Rock, Arkansas and Randy Prieur of Colorado. Wolfer nieces and nephews include Rudy Wolfer, Carol Lynn Buhlmann, and Alan Wolfer of Chicago, IL; Anita Wolfer Hornbrook of Wisconsin and Tracey Schaub Wolfer of Salt Lake City, Utah.

The 3 crucifix on her casket tell a story. The first, a gold filigree was a 1946 wedding present, the second was on the casket of her husband Al in 1973…the 3rd was on the casket of her Daddy in 1969. Rest in peace Elizabeth, Ebbie, Mother, Aunt Ebbie and Mimi…
