Gladys Marie Smith Taylor

Gladys Taylor, age 87, of Conyers, died peacefully on July 28 , 2010 after a brave and courageous battle with breast cancer. A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 30, 2010 at Victorious Life Church in Conyers (1615 Old McDonough Rd.) with Rev. Ken Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Peachtree Memorial Park in Norcross. Gladys was born on November 26, 1922 in Harriman, Tennessee to the late Richard Hamilton and Fannie Myrtle Hobbs Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband Dwain Taylor in 1975. She is survived by her daughters; Linda Taylor (Howard) Stacy of Atlanta, Janie Taylor (Mike) Thompson of Covington, Renee Taylor of Covington, 6 grandchildren; Michelle Stacy-Truelove, Rebecca Stacy, Kevin Thompson, Kori Thompson, Anna Caldwell, Stephen McCullough, 7 great-grandchildren; sisters, Carlene Smith, Helen (Darryl) Mote ; brother, William (Sarah) Smith. It’s important to know what we do between the dash so between 1922-2010 she lived a good, Christian life, devoted to her family, friends and her church. She was feisty, loved to make you laugh, played practical jokes, and was generous with family and friends. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years, helping to form the lives of the many children she taught. Gladys worked as a switchboard operator with the Jackson Southern Bell Telephone Company, Sears, and at Rich’s Department Store until she retired in 1992. Her career also included working for Kraft, a hair cream company, and Frito Lay (bagging the chips and stapling the bags). After retirement she volunteered thousands of hours at Rockdale Medical Center from 1992-2002. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at Horis A. Ward’s Rockdale Chapel in Conyers.
