Dawn Leslie Terry, 55, of Santan, passed away on June 3, 2025, after a courageous 15-year battle with cancer. Born on November 29, 1969, in Phoenix, Arizona, to Irving and Carolyn Terry, Dawn lived a life filled with love, strength, and service to others.
Dawn was a deeply nurturing soul, known for her unwavering commitment to caring for those around her. Though she had no children of her own, she helped raise four nieces and nephews and played a devoted role in the lives of 12 grandchildren, who lovingly knew her as their second mother. Her home and heart were always open — whether to a friend in need, a child seeking comfort, or an elder in her care.
She served her community with pride and passion, working as a police dispatcher for the Gila River Indian Community and later as a truancy officer and parent-teacher liaison for the Gila River School District. Dawn was known for going above and beyond, offering support, guidance, and love to families and students alike. Even through her illness, she continued to put others first, offering help, wisdom, and kindness whenever she could.
Her loyal companion, a beloved fur baby named Gracie Lou Freebush Terry, brought her great comfort and joy.
Dawn is survived by her siblings, Darryl “Travis” Terry (Cara) and Denise Terry; her goddaughter Nataliyah Jackson; the nieces and nephews she helped raise; and many cherished grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Irving and Carolyn Terry.
Dawn’s legacy is one of love, strength, and service. She will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her.
