David was born on July 2, 1947, in Madelia, Minnesota, and was a resident of Andover, Minnesota.
Dave lived most of his life in Minnesota. He grew up and went to school in the Mankato area and married his high‑school sweetheart. Together they began their teaching journeys in Hector before eventually settling in Coon Rapids, where they raised their two sons. Dave inspired countless young artists during the 39 years he taught with the majority of his career spent at Northdale Middle School before retiring from Oak View Middle School.
Dave was an avid hunter drawn to the beauty of nature and the adventure it offered. Whether he was visiting Yellowstone National Park, hunting in the hills of Winona or mountains of Montana, traveling across the plains of South Africa, venturing as far as New Zealand, or exploring remote peninsulas like Kamchatka in Russia, the outdoors was where Dave felt most alive.
Dave was a true Hard Rock enthusiast. He proudly collected more than one hundred t‑shirts of his favorite bands, which became a signature part of his everyday attire. Dave loved sharing his passion for music, always inviting others to join him at concerts. In recent years, he and his girlfriend made multiple trips to Branson to enjoy nonstop live music.
Dave also carried a deep love for everything Disney—especially Mickey. He took his family to the theme parks on both coasts, proudly flashed his Disney credit card, amassed his second‑largest t‑shirt collection along with many Mickey‑themed souvenirs, and even weathered a hurricane at Disney World with his oldest son.
Dave was a devoted Christian. He served for years as a youth group volunteer in Hector and later worshipped for decades at Faith Lutheran, where he continued his service as a youth leader. Dave also found deep fellowship in a longstanding Bible study group—one that spanned more than forty years—and it played a meaningful role in shaping his spiritual life.
Above all, Dave was a social butterfly. He was always asking how others were doing and genuinely wanting to hear the answer. He listened in a way that made people feel seen and valued. Dave leaves behind a legacy of curiosity, kindness, and connection. He will be missed by so many whose lives he touched.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna (Anderson) Asleson; his father, Jason Chamberlain; his parents, Allan and Virginia Asleson; sister, Cheryl Haefner; sister-in-law, Kay Johnson; and brothers-in-law, Brian Anderson, Paul Anderson, and Steve Ellerbusch.
David is dearly missed by his sons, Joshua (Amy) Asleson, Seth (Nawal) Asleson; significant other, Carole Teague; sisters, Judy (Dan) Soderlind, Gail (Bill) Vagts, Barb (Dave) Conrad, Jane (Rich) Resutek; brother, Steve (Patty) Asleson; brother-in-law, Gene Haefner; 3 tortoises; Montana, Florida, Nevada; and many other extended family and friends.
A service celebrating David’s life will be held on Thursday, April 9th, 2026, at 11:00AM at Faith Lutheran Church: 11115 Hanson Blvd. NW, Coon Rapids, MN 55433. A visitation will start one hour prior at 10:00AM, with a luncheon to follow.
The Family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be given to Disney Conservation Fund (IFAW), Achieve Services, and/or Faith Lutheran Church.
