Dorene attended Brainerd Public Schools. Then she worked at the St. Joseph Hospital at Brainerd. She enjoyed doing things with close friends, including attending sporting events, movies, church, parties, and especially roller skating.
Dorene was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Brainerd. The church had a roller-skating party. Howard and his younger sister, Leola, were there too. Howard asked her to skate and when talking with her and found that she liked to go to the High School basketball games. After seeing her at church the next Sunday, he decided to call her the next week and asked her to go with him to the next basketball game. For the next six months they enjoyed going to sporting events, playing games, movies, and other activities.
They were married on July 7th, 1956, at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Brainerd. Dorene was a loving wife and mother, who supported Howard for 68 years in marriage. Together, they have four Children: Kevin, Duane, Nancy, and Rodney. She accompanied and encouraged Howard as he attended seminary and was a pastor at many churches.
Dorene enjoyed cooking, baking, and caring for the children. She looked forward to spending time with the family at their lake cabin near Paynesville. Dorene was involved in many church activities. After the children were in jr. high, she worked at a nursing home in Buffalo Lake and New Brighton. In retirement, Howard and Dorene took every opportunity to travel. She always made time for family and friends and had fun hosting game nights.
In retirement, they spent summers in Minnesota and winters in Florida. Most recently, she lived at Edgemont Home in Blaine, Minnesota.
