Ruby had a strong but quiet faith in her savior Jesus Christ. She grew up on the family farm surrounded by extended family and often sang in church with her mother and sister Marie. She graduated from Eagle Bend High School in 1956 and the very next day went to Minneapolis to stay with her uncle. She enjoyed the “big” city and everything it had to offer. Ruby enjoyed her single life in the city, traveling and spending time with friends while she worked for the Old Dutch company as a money counter.
Eventually she started to date one of those friends, Gerald “Jerry” DeZiel and they married on July 17th, 1965. They eventually settled in Coon Rapids where they raised their 4 children, Karen, Steve, Debbie and Lisa. Ruby enjoyed traveling, reading, camping, polka music and spending time with family and friends. She spent her time supporting her immediate and extended family by attending many events for them. If she was invited and could make it, she went. She opened her home to many family members needing a place to stay for a night, weekend or longer. Her kind and gentle demeanor pulled people close to her. Jerry and Ruby enjoyed many trips together in their 59 years of marriage. Some of our favorite memories include the many camping trips at Bear Lake and singing in the car with her children while on road trips.
Preceded in death by her parents Rubin and Evelyn Swanberg, and beloved sisters-in- laws Arlene Rhode, Margie Rathbun and Joni DeZiel.
She is survived by her Husband of 59 years, Jerry; Children, Karen Hill (Kenny), Steve DeZiel (Kim), Debbie DeZiel, Lisa Westeren (Andy); Grandchildren, Nicholas Hill, Spencer Hill, Russell Westeren, Jackie Sawyer (Mark), Alexa DeZiel; Her 7 siblings, their spouses, and many nieces and nephews.
