Sylvia Isaura Zapata was born in Manhattan to her parents, Dominick and Tita Ramos. Sylvia met her future husband, David, when he came to the family home to visit her sister. They married in 1972 in Las Vegas, Nevada. This year marks their 57th wedding anniversary.
They moved the family from Queens to North Babylon in 1974, and here they raised their family. Sylvia had a passion for sewing and making clothes, which led her to have career in the apparel industry. She became General Manager of several Rainbow Shops stores in Queens and Long Island, where she enjoyed her work fully.
Sylvia's family fondly remembers her sense of humor, her passion for dancing and her overall love of life - as well as her dedication to her husband, her children and her family. Friends speak of her infectious laugh and her ability to light up a room.
Sylvia is survived by her beloved husband, David; her children - Kim David Zapata, Karen Rose Roberts and Mark Gregory Zapata.
A private cremation service was held, and a Memorial celebration will be held at a later date.
