Don Adolphus Peek

Don was born on May 2, 1939 to Adolphus “Dotty” and Anita Peek in Commerce, Texas. On June 3, 1961 he married the love of his life, Sherry Ann Moffett, and they celebrated 51 wonderful years of marriage before she preceded him in death. Together they raised two children, David and Lisa, in Tyler, Texas.

Don had a deep love of learning and passion for teaching. A science professor at Trinity Valley Community College for over 50 years, his favorite class to teach was Organic Chemistry. He received his bachelor's, master's, and doctorate degrees from East Texas State University.

Faith was central to Don’s life. He loved attending and serving at the church of Christ, using his gift of teaching to lead many adult and college-level Bible study classes over the years. Don said he learned as much from his students as they did from him, cherishing long, thoughtful conversations with people of all ages about the Bible, science, and life. He was also known for his wit, often choosing age-appropriate humor to make others laugh and put them at ease. With his young family members, Don would tell silly jokes, while teasing friends and peers in good fun.

A devoted family man, Don loved vacationing out West with Sherry and their children, renting Jeeps to explore the trails of Colorado. He also enjoyed investing, electronics, reading, daily long walks, target shooting with friends and family, and spending time with his family. In the 1970s and 1980s, Don owned a television store in Commerce, Texas.

Don is survived by son, David (and Christine) Peek; daughter Lisa (and Nayon) Tomsio; grandchildren Sara (and Max) Miller, Anthony Tomsio, Michael Fry, Jacob Peek, Adam Tomsio, and great-grandson Rhys Miller. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sherry, and parents Dotty and Anita.

A memorial service for Don will be held on Saturday, August 19 at 1:00pm. at Shiloh Road Church of Christ, 1801 Shiloh Rd; Tyler, Texas 75703.
