
James Francis McCleneghen, age 92 of Coppell, Texas, passed away Sunday afternoon, December 21, 2025. He was born on February 3, 1933 in New York City to the late Francis Patrick and Beatrice (née McKern) McCleneghen. He attended Nathaniel Hawthorne School and Charles E Gorton High School in Yonkers, New York. He served in the United States Army from October 1954 until his Honorable Discharge on September 30, 1956. He married the former Barbara Anne Bender on December 1, 1956. Shortly thereafter, he and Barbara moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he attended Indiana Institute of Technology. James was subsequently employed as a design engineer with International Harvester (subsequently Navistar) for 38 years, retiring in 1996. After retirement, James and Barbara moved to Vass, North Carolina, where they lived until relocating to Coppell, Texas in 2020.
He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend to all who knew him. He was dedicated to his wife, children, and church. He was a member of the
Knights of Columbus, Boy Scout Leader, youth baseball coach, avid golfer, enthusiastic fisherman and lifelong Brooklyn/LA Dodgers fan. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Barbara; his six children; James (Helen) McCleneghen of Trophy Club, Texas and his three children: Megan (Rijo), Andy (Caroline), Jacqueline (Eric); Laura (Nelson) Almond of Finley, Ohio and her three children: Jimmy (Nikki), Brian (Lisa), Alicia (Josh); Anne (Wayne) Taylor of Fisher, Indiana and her two children: Ben and Sarah (Adam) Grannan; Scott McCleneghen of Cary, North Carolina and his three children: Hailey (Glenn) Glass, Francis Patrick, and Kelsey; Theresa (Mark) Seedorf of Liberty Center, Ohio and her five children:Christopher, Melissia (Daniel) Bustamante, Lauren (Kolt) Handy, Travis, and Tyler; Patricia (Mike) Hayes and her two children: Patrick (Kelly) and Brady; eighteen grandchildren, and eighteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Agnes, brother Francis, sister Edna, and sister Delia, and numerous nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.
A memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, January 5, 2026, at St. Joseph Village, 1201 E. Sandy Lake Rd, Coppell, Texas 75019. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at St. Andrew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 3008 Old Raleigh Rd. Apex, North Carolina 27502. Interment to follow the funeral Mass. Rolling Oaks Funeral Home (Coppell, Texas) and Apex Funeral Home (Apex, North Carolina) are assisting the family. The family would like to express particular gratitude to the nurses and staff at St. Joseph Village and Meadowview House for all the compassionate care given to James in his final days.
