

Barbara Ann (Dawson) Bowman was born on March 17th, 1951 to Alfred and Mattie Dawson in Magnolia, Mississippi, Pike County. She was the second born of eight children. Barbara graduated from South Pike High School in May of 1969. After high school she serves as a nurse at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center in McComb, Mississippi.
Barbara joined the military in May of 1974 where she attended basic training and advanced individual training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. There she became an Administrative Specialist (71 L). She was assigned to Fort Hood, Texas where she worked as an administrative specialist for 13th COSCOM. She also attended the Primary Leadership Development Course at Fort Hood, the Basic Non-Commissioned Officer Course and the Advanced Non-Commissioned Officer Course at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana. Barbara’s duty assignments included: Bremerhaven West Germany, Fort Hood, Texas and Ansbach, Germany First Armor Division (Old Ironsides). She was reassigned back to Fort Hood, Texas. She deployed to the Persian Gulf to serve her country in the Gulf War, Desert Storm. She received numerous awards and decorations.
Barbara retired with honors from the U.S. Army after 20 years of service in May of 1994. After retiring, Barbara worked for American Federation of Government Employees for 8 years, and the United States Government Finance for 6 years at Fort Hood, Texas.
Barbara married Joseph Bowman June 16th, 1979 in Kolding, Denmark. She had two children, Natasha LeShan Bowman and Joseph Jachin Bowman.
She was a member of Comanche Chapel on Fort Hood where she was a part of usher board hospitality, a choir member, sisterhood and Vacation Bible School. She volunteered much of her time to serving the community. Barbara’s God given gifts were baking, gardening and decorating. She loved red birds and angels.
Some of her favorite songs were, “Going up Yonder,” “One Day at a Time,” “Lamb of God,” and “Let the Church Say Amen.” Her favorite scripture was, “Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Barbara had a beautiful smile and she always saw the good in everyone.

A Wake will be held on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home of Copperas Cove from 6-8 PM. A Home Going Celebration will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, April 22, 2016 at Comanche Chapel with Pastor David Reynolds officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Copperas Cove City Cemetery.
