Elsie Edith Cook, 76, passed away on Sunday, January 14 in the company of her husband and sons at Copperas Cove Nursing and Rehabilitation after a long battle with Alzheimers. Elsie was born in Watson, Oklahoma to the late Benjamin and Mabel Tunnell. She is survived by Paul, her husband of 53 years, her sons Brandan (Magdeline) and Brad (Charli), and grandchildren Elisabeth, Alexis, Chase, and Jessie. She also is survived by one sister, Shirley Capehart, and a brother, Larry Tunnell.
She was preceded in death by her sisters Sue Jordan, Gayle Jones, Norma Fields and brothers Alex, Jerry, and Herald Tunnell.
For almost 20 years Elsie greeted everyone coming into Cooks MiniMart, the store she owned with her husband, with a smile. Elsie was a member of the Church of Christ for 36 years and loved a good hymn. She could not resist grabbing a young baby from across the pews to cuddle and hold during church. Church services being held up while mom visited was not uncommon. People loved the fruit salad she would make for a Sunday potluck. Her laughter was a constant. Stranger or not, Elsie could find a reason to talk to anyone at any time and anywhere.
The family sends its gratitude to the staff at Copperas Cove Nursing and Rehab and New Century Hospice. Your efforts over the past year made mom's life much more comfortable.
In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to the Alzheimer's Association at alz.org.
As a celebration of Elsie's life we will have a singing and potluck at the Copperas Cove Church of Christ (306 W Ave E) at noon on Saturday, January 27th. Bring your favorite dish or side.
