Jerome Bernell Thompson

Jerome “JB” Thompson was born in Mason City, Iowa. He was the fourth child of Jewell O. and Lillian (Holstad) Thompson. He grew up in Freeborn County, on a farm and graduated from Glenville High School in 1960. In September of 1960 he joined the United States Air Force.

In 1964 JB met and married Helen Boles on December 7th. They had two sons, Dean Oren in 1965, and Rodney Lynn in 1970. The family traveled a lot while JB was in the Air Force, living in various locations both in the U.S and Germany. JB and Helen were married for 31 years until Helen’s death in 1996.

In 1996 JB met Samra “Jen” Mondido and they married on August 4, 1999. JB and Jen were married for 27 years.

JB is survived by his wife Samra; sons Dean Thompson & wife Melissa, Rodney Thompson & wife Becky all of Harker Heights TX, and Brian Mondido of Austin TX; three grandchildren, Alejandro Thompson, Alyssa Lugo, and Emma Thompson, and three great-grandchildren: Matthew, Oliver, and Mai. Also mourning his loss are his four siblings, Geno Thompson (Carol), Gary Thompson (Sandy), LuJean Nelson, and Hertha Steckelberg, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and longtime friends.

JB will be missed by everyone who knew him, he was much beloved. A memorial service is planned for April 17th, 2026. Further details to come.
