John David Lightfoot's obituary is, in many ways, the final word of the story of his extraordinary life. John will always be known to us as patient and compassionate. His love and passion for life was stronger than most just ask his family, his friends and his fiancé. John loved helping anyone he could whether it be at work, or with his family or friends. He has warmly impacted everyone in his life.
John was the first born child of his late father Steve and his mother Susan - proud parents! John's eagerness to learn from his parents made parenting incredibly easy! From hunting to walking the runways in fashion shows, John had a zest for life - even at an early age. It is from this early age that John developed his lifelong interests in reading, super heroes, and movies. Nothing was too much or too difficult for him - everything from reading the classics to watching horror movies with his parents at an early age. John was always developing interests and talents throughout his childhood including competitive swimming and debating in school. These talents earned him a scholarship to college.
Family and friends always came first. John was the most family centric person you would ever meet. John was the oldest of eight children - Jeremy, Jordan, Zachary, Ethan, Susie Emma, and Layla. He cherished each of these relationships.
After college, John was lucky to find a career as a system designer that he loved! Not many people are able to find a long term career that they enjoy and excel in. John was beloved by all his new and long-term clients as well as his coworkers and his superiors. John reciprocated that love back to them.
John developed many deep friendships throughout his life. Once you were a friend of his, you were a friend for life. His friends were as diverse as his interests in life which included movies, sports, karaoke, music, podcasting, cooking, and traveling. One weekend, he would be going to a film festival, the next, he'd be attending a comic con, then a baseball game. Nothing was off limits to him!
A year and a half ago, John fell in love. John and Paige Bockhorn became engaged. The courtship was during the pandemic, and the engagement could have been a scene from a romantic movie.
If an obituary is truly the last words of one's life, then this must be mentioned. John was a man entranced by the story of superheroes. One hero stood above all others, a hero who has strong ethics, a strong mind, and pure to the heart. A hero that who resourcefully uses his mind and privileges - Batman. What made John love the Batman character? He was an ordinary man that promoted justice through technology and through his mind. In the days where right from wrong was obvious, John did the same.
His job and his life aimed at high ethics. He was what most would call tech-savy. He would transform
a house from ordinary to extra-ordinary. The surround sound, the right colors, the music, the atmosphere and, most important, the connectivity and power to bring new life to a home was John's superpower. He could bring love to any home. His enthusiasm for his work was contagious - just ask his coworkers and clients.
Even having passed at such a young age, John lived a fuller life than most people. This world will not be the same without John.
John passed away Thursday, June 10 2021 at 8:45pm in Austin, Texas.
