For a combined 45 years, John served in the United States Army and Civil Service, embodying the values of duty, honor, and sacrifice. As a Master Sergeant, he was a leader, a mentor, and a protector—always ensuring that those under his command were not only well-trained but also well-cared for. His sense of responsibility went beyond orders and missions; he led with strength, kindness, and unwavering integrity. He believed in doing things right the first time, never cutting corners, and always setting the highest example for those around him.
But John’s greatest role was not just in uniform—it was at home, with his beloved wife, Haeng McCoy, and their son, Martin McCoy. As a husband and father, he was a rock, a provider, and a source of endless wisdom. He had a way of bringing laughter even in the toughest moments—his quick wit and sense of humor could brighten anyone’s day. He was not just a leader in the Army; he was a leader in his family, teaching by example, guiding with love, and always ensuring that those he cared for knew they were his greatest pride.
In 2 Timothy 4:7, we are reminded:
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
John Franklin McCoy did just that. He fought for his country, he fought for his loved ones, and he did it with honor, strength, and love. His legacy is not just in the years he served but in the lives he touched, the laughter he shared, and the lessons he left behind.
Though he is no longer with us, his spirit remains. It lives on in Haeng, in Martin, and in every person who had the privilege of knowing him. Today, we do not just mourn his passing—we celebrate his life, his impact, and the love he gave so freely.
He was preceded in death by Rueben Leon McCoy, Sandra Davis and Nancy McCoy.
He is survived by his two sisters Gracie Dublin and Doris Poe.
Rest in peace, Master Sergeant John Franklin McCoy. Your mission is complete, your duty is fulfilled, and your legacy will never fade.
Until we meet again—thank you for everything.
