

A memorial service for Johnnie Mae Cameron, age 96, of Copperas Cove will be held Friday, December 26 at 1:00 p.m. in First Baptist Church in Copperas Cove with Dr. Mark Kemp and Col. Robert Hutcherson, USA Ret. officiating. Inurnment will be in the City of Levelland Cemetery, Levelland, TX, January 3, at 2:00 p.m. with a time of visiting from 12:00 to 2:00 at George C. Price Funeral Home.
Johnnie Mae Jenkins was born January 24, 1918 in Union County, AR, to John Thomas Jenkins and Josie Irene Speaks Jenkins. She passed away December 20, 2014 at her residence in a local nursing facility. She grew up on a farm and attended school in Junction City, AR. She married L.M.”Peck” Cameron December 22, 1935 in Wesson, AR and they settled on a farm near Pettit, TX before moving to Levelland in 1945.
She was a housewife until her youngest child was in High School when she became the Hockley County Commodities agent (in the predecessor of the food stamps program.) At the time of her retirement, she was secretary to the Justice of the Peace in Levelland.
She moved to Copperas Cove in 2003 where she was a member of First Baptist Church. She was a charter member of College Avenue Baptist Church in Levelland.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, Dennis Milton Cameron, her parents, and a great-grandson, Jake Cameron. Also, preceding her in passing were her brothers Wesley, Harper, and Paul and sister Thelma Greer.
Mrs. Cameron is survived by her daughter, Valeta (Richard) Bailey of Copperas Cove and son Thomas Dale “Dooley” Cameron, SR of Magnolia, TX. Other survivors include 9 grandchildren Kathy Pynes, Deborah Bailey, Rick Bailey, Kristi Davis, Angie Webb, Cale Cameron, Tanna Wallace, Jeff Cameron, and Tom Cameron.16 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Betty Jenkins of Northglenn, CO, daughter-in-law, Sandra Cameron of Lubbock and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
Memorials may be made to the building fund of College Avenue Baptist Church, 213 North College Ave, 79336 or the benevolence fund of First Baptist Church, of Copperas Cove at 300 W. Avenue B, 76522.
