

Roel served honorably in the U.S. Airforce for 8 years as a SGT. During his time serving, Roel was a law enforcement specialist and handler for patrol and explosive detecting dogs. He later furthered his law enforcement career in Utah, where he served as an officer for 29 yeas for the Department of Corrections as well as an attack dog handler in SWAT for a year. In his retirement, Roel enjoyed spending time with his loving wife and friends. He loved to fish and hunt with his be friend, Craig Poulton.
Roel is survived by wife of 37 years, Jerry L. Cortez of Kempner, tx; and son, Chad Cameron Collinwood as well as his sisters; Terry Woods, Norma Peralez, Irma Sanchez, Nelda Cardenas, Velma Azua, Odelia Arellano as well as many nieces and nephews whom loved him dearly.
He is proceeded in death by his brothers; Tomas Cortez III, and Eloy Cortez.
Roel will be interred at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas on Thursday, March 24th at 1pm. Funeral services have been entrusted to the care of Crawford Bowers Funeral Home in Copperas Cove, Texas.
