Trysten Michael Chaney (17) was born on June 26th, 2007 in Deridder, Louisiana to Cassie Watson and Joshua Chaney. He passed away Tuesday January 14th, 2025 in Copperas Cove, Texas. At the time of his passing Trysten was a senior at Copperas Cove High School in Copperas Cove, Texas. During his time at CCHS he was a member of the Bull Dawgs varsity football team. The highlight of his time at CCHS was the time he spent with his brothers under the Friday night lights. His teammates and coaches were his family. His coaches were a great motivator and inspiration in his life. Both his teammates and his coaches created a space where Trysten always felt at home.
At an early age he fell in love with sports. There wasn’t a sport that he could not dominate. Trysten played everything from soccer, basketball, baseball, football and was not afraid to trash talk the players AND coaches. Ultimately he fell in love with football. This year, Trysten received several offers to play football at various Universities. He planned to attend college, obtain a degree in Criminal Justice, and one day join the police force.
Trysten was an avid gamer. No one was surprised to hear him trash talking his friends. His family will never forget how his jokes could ruin any serious moment, how he would use those piercing blue eyes to get out of cleaning the litter boxes, his daily 7-Eleven trips, and the constant requests for Door Dash money.
Trysten was truly a gentle giant. From the day he was born he stole his momma’s heart and had his MiMi wrapped around his finger. As he grew, so did his kind and gentle spirit. He loved being a brother. He spent most of his life pestering his big sister. As crazy as he drove her, they grew into the best of friends. Rarely was there a time where you would see Ali without her little big brother. Recently, he had the honor of walking her down the aisle and gave her away to the love of her life. His little sister Mackenzie was a light in his life. He adored her and took pride in being her brother. When they were together they would spend hours together playing hide and seek. He even taught her how to play Minecraft. In true big brother fashion, he would hold her hand anytime they were in the car together. Trysten’s and his God brother Khi shared a special relationship and could often be heard playing VERY loudly (a drastic understatement) whenever they were together.
Trysten was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother Bonnie Johnson, NaNa Renee Brannon, and Cousin Barbara Chaney. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his mother Cassie Watson of Copperas Cove, Texas , father Joshua (Samantha) Chaney of Norwalk, Iowa, step father Russell Watson of Jacksboro, Texas, Grandfather Genna Ferguson of Copperas Cove, Texas, Grandparents Milton (Glenda) Chaney of St. Charles, Iowa, God mother aka MiMi Ashley (Royce) Brannon of Copperas Cove, Texas, sister Ali( Dakota) Donovan of Copperas Cove, Texas, sister Mackenzie Chaney of Norwalk, Iowa, sister Kelsie (Britt) Mauldin of Camp Pendleton, California, sisters Kimberly and Kasey Watson of Burnet, Texas, uncles Joey (Jessica) Slaughter of Leesville, Louisiana, Ryan (Kristen) Ferguson of San Antonio, Texas, Uncle Shawn (Cassie) Chaney of Winterset, Iowa, cousins: Jayden, Kyler, Nathyn, Landon, Sophia, Gabby, and Luke. He leaves a slew of other family, friends, and LOTS of ladies to cherish his memory.
