Mrs. Nelson died on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at the Regency Retirement Home in Jackson, TN. She was born in Wheatley, AR on January 21, 1924 to the late John Floyd and Irene Blankinship Byrum.
She enjoyed embroidery; making a lot of her own clothes; loved to visit the residents at the nursing homes where she was known as the "Banana Lady", due to her bringing bananas to them on a daily basis, was an excellent cook, mother, and grandmother. Mrs. Nelson also sang in the choir at First Baptist Church - Corinth, where she was a member, and was called upon by Bill McPeters numerous times in the past to sing at funerals.
Along with her parents, Mrs. Nelson was preceded in death by her husband, Travis Nelson Sr. and one brother, James Byrum.
Survivors include one son, Travis Nelson Jr. and wife Joyce of Issaquah, WA; one daughter, Melanie Mathis and husband Ben of Jackson, TN; one brother, Fritz Byrum and wife Jackie of Glenco, MO; one sister, Florene Dobesh of Tyndall, SD; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends beginning at noon on Wednesday at the funeral home.
