Doris Kitchens Mills died in her home in Kossuth, Mississippi on November 20, 2013 at the age of 83, surrounded by her loving family. Doris was born on February 4, 1930 as the only child of the late Mary Allen Kitchens and Ernest Kitchens. Doris became a Christian at a young age and has loved her Lord and followed Him all of her life. She was a member of Kossuth Baptist Church where she taught Youth Sunday School for many years and was a member of the Joy Sunday School Class.
On November 24,1949, Doris married her childhood sweetheart Albert Hudson Mills (Bert). This year marks their 64th year of marriage. They have lived in Kossuth all of their lives. They claim to have first fallen in love in the 2nd grade when an apple rolled off of Doris’ desk and Bert quickly picked it up for her. This started a lifetime of love and commitment. Doris and Bert have two children, Mary Leeza Mills Glisson of Bowling Green, Kentucky and her husband Tony L. Glisson, and Mark Albert Mills of Diamondhead, Mississippi. Doris was a wife, mom and homemaker. Because family was always her first priority, she gave up her career as Assistant to the Superintendent of Education in Alcorn County when Leeza was born.
Doris took great pride in her grandchildren and great-grandsons: Hannah Glisson Compton, her husband Will Compton, and their two children George William Compton IV and Wade Hudson Compton from Glasgow, Kentucky; and Lydia Ruth Glisson Gilliam, her husband Brandon Gilliam, and their son Hudson Tate Gilliam from Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Doris had many hobbies, one of which was flower gardening. She spent many hours planting and enjoying her flowers. She also loved birds, traveling, reading, and journaling. But the passion of her life was spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her mother and father-in-law, Albert Lee Mills and Ruth Hudson Mills, her sister-in-law Doris Mills Patton. She is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service will be 1:00 P.M. Friday at Kossuth Baptist Church with Rev. Kenny McGill, Rev. Trey Lambert officiating and Leeza Glisson offering the eulogy. Burial will be in the Wheeler Cemetery.
