Tom went home to be with his savior on Saturday April 13, 2019. He was born on September 20, 1941 to William R. and Jewell Shields Gant of Corinth. He graduated in May of 1960 from Kossuth High School. On August 19, 1960, Tom married the love and sunshine of his life, his beautiful wife Mary Spencer Gant. Together, God truly blessed them with a beautiful family. They were blessed with Gloria, Debbie and Greg Gant. From their children stemmed 4 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Tom enjoyed his family and cherished every moment they all spent together, from family trips to gatherings for lunch on Sunday. He loved them all. Tom truly led his family in the way of the lord and never missed an opportunity to tell them what Christ meant to him. At the age of 14, Tom accepted the lord as his savior and began serving him then and until the day he went home. He served the lord through the music ministry, youth ministry and as a deacon. He served as music leader for many years at Wheeler Grove Baptist, Holly Baptist, Hinkle Baptist, Forrest Hill Baptist and Kossuth Baptist Church. When he retired from the ministry of music, he and Mary found and made their home at Chewalla Baptist Church which has been home for many years. Tom enjoyed the outdoors and had a special love for fishing and enjoyed doing it every opportunity he got. He always looked forward to his yearly fishing trip with his son, Greg, and church family. He enjoyed doing work with his tractor, planting a garden, hunting and just sitting his front porch swing relaxing and enjoying the day. Tom worked at Dean Truck Line and Milan Express for years. After leaving Milan, he went on to work for the Mississippi Department of Transportation for 29 years before retiring. When Tom left his walk here on Earth, he entered into Heaven. Through this, he left behind a legacy for his family to follow. He was a devoted loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who loved the lord with all of his heart. He will always be remembered as the man who led his family, whom he loved dearly, to the savior, through his walk, wisdom, prayer and guidance and held them together. Through his words to Mary he said, “I love you very much and will be waiting on you in heaven. Don’t be sad, just rejoice with me.” What confidence in knowing we will see him again.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mary Spencer Gant; daughters, Gloria Spencer and husband Jackie, Debbie Bradley and husband Jeff; son, Greg Gant and wife Amy; granddaughters, Mandy Boren and husband Tim, Jessica Saba and husband Donald, Amber Mullins and husband Josh, Krissy Johnson and husband Scott; great-grandchildren, Logan Boren, Weslee Boren, Lundon Saba, Zoey Mullins, Layla Mullins, Scarlett Johnson, Evie Johnson and Sawyer Johnson; siblings, Ginger Maness and husband Wayne, Phillip Gant and wife Glenna, Roger Gant and wife Betty Sue, Lynn Hinton and husband Ray, Cathy Meteer and husband Mike, Nita Wolfe and husband Joel and a sister-in-law, Janie Grant; and a host of other family and friends.
