
Funeral services for Jane Montelle Howie, 93 of Corinth, Miss., are set for 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 18, 2011, at the First United Methodist Church in Corinth. Visitation will be held at the church prior to service, from 11:00 a.m. until service time. Dr. Prentiss Gordon and Bro. Warren Jones will officiate.
Mrs. Howie went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 15, 2011, at her home. She was born July 27, 1917, in Corinth, MS. Mrs. Howie, or “Meme” as we all knew her, was a life long member of First United Methodist Church of Corinth and a founding member of the Belle Bennett Circle.
She was an entrepreneur and operated a family grocery store, Pop’s Green Corner, and Meme’s Day Care for 20 years. She worked at Belk’s Department Store as a sales department manager for many years and was recognized as one of the top sales department managers earning multiple sales awards during her career. She retired in 1985 doing the things she enjoyed the most, spending time with her family and many friends and planting and landscaping her garden.
Mrs. Howie was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Carl D. Howie, Sr. Survivors include two sons, Carl D. Howie, Jr. (Lisa) of Montgomery, TX, and Jimmy Howie (Betty) of Corinth, MS; four daughters, Celeste Little (Ken) of Meridian, MS, Joyce Frank (Myles) of Meridian, MS, Fran Seago (Billy) of Katy, TX, and Peggy Mars of Corinth; a brother, Billy Bratton of Phoenix, AL; a sister, Lottie Gray, of Chattanooga, TN; twelve grandchildren and twenty five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are grandsons Kent Howie, Joe Howie, David Horn, Darrell Horn, Michael Seago and Todd Seago.
Honorary pallbearers are grandchildren Toby Remy, Zina Grayson, Andrea Grimes, Holly Elofson, Nancy Chase and Sgt. Jacques Garcia.
