Jerry graduated from high school with the class of 1961 before proudly serving his country in the United States Army as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division. Following his military service, he married the love of his life, Joyce Elaine Whitaker, and returned to Holly Springs, Mississippi, where he earned his bachelor's degree in business from the University of Mississippi.
Throughout his life, Jerry held many roles in the Holly Springs community. He worked for Holly Springs Brick and Tile, Wurlitzer, Care Inn Nursing Home, and Marshall County Hospital. He also served as Marshall County Road Manager and spent time driving a truck. In his later years, he became the owner of Beck's Bottles in Holly Springs, a venture that reflected his independent spirit and strong work ethic.
Jerry was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and tending to his large garden. He took great joy in sharing the fruits of his labor with family and friends, often canning vegetables and passing them along to others. In the early 1980s, he developed a passion for muzzleloading, which led him to become actively involved in Rendezvous with the Hatchie Run Long Rifles. There, he formed many lasting friendships, known for his candid humor, storytelling, and willingness to share knowledge with others.
Jerry never met a stranger and truly loved being around people. Whether teaching a skill or telling a story, he had a way of making others feel welcome. As one lifelong friend said, "There is only one Jerry Beck---to know him was to love him."
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce W. Beck; his brother, Leon Jackson "Jack" Beck, Jr.; and his sister, Donna Stark.
He is survived by his son, Jerry B. Beck, Jr. (Diane); his daughter, Jacque Beck; his grandson, Jake Beck (Charle) and great-grandson, Jackson; his granddaughter, Kimball Beck; his granddaughter, Hallie Dickey (CJ) and great-grandson, Ethan; and his grandsons, Drew Kazemba (Shanleigh) and Will Kazemba.
