

Mary Underwood Green, 85, passed from this world on February 16, 2026 at her home in Corinth, Mississippi. She was born in Corinth on December 6, 1940 to Jessie Ray Underwood and Ripple Cates Underwood. She lived a long, purposeful life devoted to family and God.
Mary graduated from Corinth High School in 1959 and attended MSCW where she met the love of her life Bill Green. They were married on June 18, 1961. While at MSCW she was selected as
Miss MSCW and represented the school in the Miss Mississippi contest. Mary and Bill lived in Mobile and Huntsville, Alabama before returning to Corinth in 1969.
In Corinth, she was active in Junior Auxiliary and other civic organizations. Mary was a talented vocalist and loved to sing in the church choir and was a frequent soloist. She also sang with the Krossroads Kollection, a local choral group. Mary was heavily involved in the ministries of First Baptist Church. She served in the nursery, taught teen girls Sunday school, led children musicals,and was instrumental in establishing the FBC kindergarten where she taught four year old children for 23 years. Through the years Mary served on multiple FBC ministry search committees for music, youth and pastoral positions.
Above all, Mary was a devoted wife and mother. She invested her time in her children, following all their events and was actively involved in the PTA . At the death of her daughter-in-law, she devoted herself to helping raise her two granddaughters. She enjoyed traveling in the US and abroad with her husband, children and grandchildren and loved her time at Pickwick with them.
She was preceded in death by her father, J. Ray Underwood, her mother, Ripple Cates Underwood and her daughter-in -law Kim L Green.
She is survived by her husband William Green; sons William Jr (Robin), David (Angie), Michael (Amy); brother Joe Ray Underwood (Nancy); granddaughters Catelin Sanfilippo (Kyle) and Alison Green; grandsons Lawson Green and Will Green and great granddaughter Effie Sanfilippo along with a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Friday at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church with burial to follow in Henry Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 12 noon until service time. Dr. Nathan VanHorn will officiate the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to First Baptist Church of Corinth Music Ministry.
