Celebration of Life Service for Mary Elizabeth “Jeanie Greene” Lee are set for 1:00 p.m. Friday at Memorial Funeral Home with Bill Jobe and Donna Jean McKay officiating. Burial will be in the Henry Cemetery.
Family and friends gathering will be Friday from 11:00 to service time.
Mary “Jeanie Greene” Lee, 75 went to be with the Lord after an extended illness on August 19, 2018 in Boaz, Al. She was born on February 6, 1943 in Corinth, MS. to Leland Carmon Johnson and Mary Lou Coke Johnson. She graduated from Corinth High Scholl in 1961. She was a Christian.
Mary Elizabeth was highly gifted musically and exhibited a great passion for music and worshipping the Lord, which she expressed beautifully through her powerful voice and piano playing. She was a professional recording artist, musician, and writer. Mary Elizabeth “Jeanie” signed as a recording artist for RCA Victor records as a teenager. She compiled an extensive body of work as a back-up singer on countless recording sessions in studios in Muscle Shoals, AL., Memphis and Nashville, with major artists (Some of which were the biggest names in the history of the music industry). A number of those singles and albums become Gold records. She also toured as a headliner and as a back-up singer in venues such as The Concert for Bangladesh in Madison Square Garden.
Mary Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Max Lee; her parents, Leland Carmon Johnson and Mary Lou Coke Johnson; one brother, infant Johnson; grandparents: James Albert Johnson, Cora Johnson and Richard Franklin Coke, Mary Elizabeth Coke.
She is survived by several cousins, friends and caregiver Karla Irons and other friends.
