

Thomas Jefferson “Jeff” Hurst, III passed away July 6, 2015, in Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis surrounded by his family. Jeff was born on March 19, 1960, in Corinth, Mississippi to the late Laverne Roach Hurst and Thomas Jefferson Hurst Jr. Jeff graduated from Corinth High School in 1978. He went on to work at Caterpillar for 26 years where he was a respected supervisor and leader known for his
dedication to his employees along with his sharp wit and sharper tongue. Jeff viewed his colleagues at Caterpillar like a second
family.
He enjoyed a number of hobbies through the years including collecting antiques, restoring cars, watching classic movies and sports, and playing cards. He was also a dedicated coach at the Corinth YMCA for all of his children’s youth.
Along with his parents, Jeff is preceded in death by his youngest son, George Alexander Hurst. He is survived by his two sisters and oldest son: Pam Sample and husband Ricky of Savannah, TN; Pat Lancaster and husband Harold of Corinth, MS; and Thomas Jefferson “TJ” Hurst, IV and wife Emily of Philadelphia, PA.
Arrangements for Jeff’s memorial will be held at the Memorial Funeral Home in Corinth, MS. The visitation will Friday, July 10th from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The service will be in the Memorial Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, July 11th at 2:00 pm with the Rev. Dr. Brent Coffin officiating. The burial will be at Henry Cemetery where Jeff will be laid to rest next to his beloved son, Alex.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Pierce Foundation Endowment Fund, c/o Create Foundation Inc., P.O. Box 1053, Tupelo, MS 38802, which provides scholarships to Corinth High School graduates and is dedicated to making Corinth/Alcorn County a better place to
live.
