A private family service to celebrate the life of Virginia “Jennie” Pearce, 81, will be held at 11 AM Saturday at Gaines Chapel United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Iuka. The service will be livestreamed via the Gaines Chapel UMC Facebook page.
Mrs. Pearce died on August 31, 2020 at her residence. She was born in Corinth on August 1, 1939 to the late Ledgie and Katie Mae Grisham. She was a 1957 graduate of Iuka High School. She then attended Northeast C.C. and graduated with a degree in secretarial science from Mississippi State University in 1961. She started her career as secretary for Corinth High School and then taught business education along with other classes for 33 years. She was a very active member of Gaines Chapel United Methodist Church where she was the church secretary for over 30 years. She and her late husband Dean were church youth leaders and she was a member of the Jack Williams Sunday school class. She enjoyed listening to gospel music, reading, and taking short trips with Dean.
She is survived by her family who always meant the world to her: loving and devoted son, Stan of Corinth; daughter, Pam DeGroot and husband Scott of Knoxville, TN; four grandsons who were her pride and joy, Henry & George DeGroot and Reed & Will Pearce; sister, Ann Saucier of Jackson, MS; brother-in-law, Jackie Pearce and wife Patricia and her niece, nephew, church family and a host of other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Stanley Dean Pearce Sr., and her brother in law, Ken Saucier.
Rev. Trey Lambert will officiate the services.
