Christa Elisabet Kamenz

6 June, 193525 August, 2020

Our mom, Christa Elisabet Kamenz, died peacefully at home in Alexandria, Ontario on August 25, 2020.

Christa was born on June 6, 1935 in Werben, Germany, to her parents Wilhelm and Elischa Tippe. She immigrated to Canada in 1956 to marry her husband Bruno; they lived in Montreal and then moved to Cornwall in 1967. Christa was a kind and loving mother, she delighted in her grandchildren and great grandchildren; she was deeply involved with her church community, teaching Sunday school, singing in the choir, and providing leadership and support to numerous church activities.

Mom was a teacher at heart; she loved to play and sing and engage with children, who were always drawn to her. She will be missed by all of us who love her dearly, and who now celebrate that she is at peace with Jesus.

Christa is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Birgid and Bruce MacCallum of Alexandria and their children Lischa (Max Woodley), Hannah and Sheldon; her son and daughter-in-law, Geri and Heather Kamenz of Spencerville ON, and their children Erika (Drew Hendrick) and Zoe, and great grandchildren Heidi, Alice and Axel; and daughter and son-in-law, Astrid and Tom Steele of Tilden Lake, ON; and by her sister DinaTiedemann. She is preceeded in death by her husband Bruno.

Christa was buried in a private ceremony (due to Covid19 restrictions) attended by family on August 27, 2020.

My deepest sympathy to Astrid, Tom, Geri, Heather, Brigid, Bruce and their families on the loss of their mother and grandmother Chris. One of my earliest memories of Chris was at First Baptist when she talked of her experience escaping Germany and how moving and emotional it was. Her story has stayed with me since then. My mum and dad (Isa and Tom) were great friends with Chris and Bruno and their friendship meant the world to them. Mum loved Chris very much and they shared many laughs and stories with each other including the Kirby grip (Bobbi pins) story! Cherish your memories and Chris with always be with you in your hearts. I’m sure Chris and my mum are having a great chat and a cup of tea in heaven. ❤️💕❤️

My deepest sympathies to Astrid, Geri, Birgid and their families. I remember fondly my time with your Mum and Dad. Both at the farm, at First Baptist and the many times I had the pleasure of interacting with both Chris and Bruno and my Mum and Dad. I always felt honoured when your Mum and Dad insisted I call them Chris and Bruno. Peace and love to you all, from an old friend.

I have known the Kamenz family for over 50 years, beginning when their youngest daughter Birgid was in the First Baptist Church nursery at the same age as my eldest son, Stephen, and I was taking care of the nursery at that time. Chris and I were in the church choir, alto section, together and had some wonderful fun times under the direction of Ralph MacDonald. Many cantatas under our belt! I always admired and loved Chris for her way of communicating with people. She was a compassionate and helpful lady to all those who knew her and I will miss her immensely. She had Titus and I at the 'farm' a couple of years ago and let Titus climb on the rolled hay bales and gave me an apple to feed the resident bull. Took a few tries but I gained enough courage to let the bull take the apple and my hand, into his mouth. An accomplishment I will always remember. Thank you for all the wonderful memories, Chris and family, for the years we had together. My heart is hurting but thankful at the same time that she is with the Lord she so loved.

Mrs. Kamenz was the first teacher I ever had that when she'd look in my eyes, I KNEW she loved and trusted God. I still remember her voice as she'd say my name, holding my hand as she would reassure of God's love while she spoke to me. Thank you for your comfort when I needed it most Chris. You really knew how to be there for us kids/ teenagers growing up in church while the rest of the world challenged our faith. May you rest now and watch over us from heaven. Until we meet again!!

To Chris's family we extend our deepest sympathy in her passing. We have always cherished our friendships and visits with her and Bruno over the years. We also think of all the lovely devotions and messages she has given for Baptist Women as well as teaching our children in Sunday School.
Chris was a lovely tenderhearted person and we will miss her dearly.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time.
Sorry we missed the visitation as we were away at this time.

My sincere condolences to Geri and Heather, Astrid and Tom, Birgid and Bruce. The grandchildren and great grandchildren. My life was touched in so many ways by the friendship Chris and I shared. Chris invited me to their farm and also invited me to First Baptist Church where I attended for many years. Chris took me under her wing where I felt her soft voice in sharing with me. She was a loving , caring , soft spoken person.
Chris I will miss you so much. We tried to get together for many months in Alexandria but it just didn't happen.

Rest in peace Chris

Your Mom was an amazing women. We met when we both worked at Iroquois Chemicals. When I transferred from the Lab to the
office, Chris took me under her wing. She taught me how to do the
Union Payroll and Accounts Receivable.

I also met your Grandmother when your Mom would invite over
during the week to her house for lunch. Your parents even came
to our wedding.

Your Mom was kind, patient, hard worker, great teacher and had an awesome personality.

My deepest sympathy to your families. Angela Bold
