On January 26, 2026, the world lost a bright and spirited soul. Eleanor Paradis, 88, passed away suddenly in Calgary, Alberta, leaving behind a legacy defined by love, laughter, and incredible fortitude.
Born on November 9, 1937, in Montreal, Quebec, Eleanor dedicated many years to her career as a secretary, first at Northern Telecom and later at Friedman and Friedman, where she eventually retired. Following her career, she moved to Eastern Ontario, residing in Martintown, Ingleside, and Cornwall. These were some of her most cherished years—a time where she was always "on the go" and deeply involved in her community. In her final years, she moved to Calgary, Alberta, to be near her daughter Kathy, who provided her with devoted care and support.
Eleanor was renowned for her legendary lemon bread and chocolate chip cookies, her love of square dancing, and her skill at the Bridge table. She was a familiar face at the Long Sault Market, where she took great pride in selling her handcrafted dishcloths and other wares. Eleanor had an innate ability to put everyone at ease and make them feel at home; she was a resilient, strong-willed woman who faced life’s challenges with unwavering grace.
She was predeceased by her devoted husband Yves Paradis and parents Lionel Powles and Jessie Black. She is survived by her loving daughters Kathy Conroy (Greg Wallwork) and Cindy DeWolfe (Andrew); Stepchildren Gerry Paradis (Antonia), Jodie Paradis (Jesse James); Grandchildren Cassandra, Curtis, Deven, James, Emma, Rebecca, Lucas, Bruce, Nouveau, Jackson, Jackson and Rylie and by her great grandchildren Lucy, Charlie and Murphy and her sister Lynn Bervaldi (the late Mike Bervaldi) and many nieces and nephews.
We would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful and caring staff at the Colonel Belcher Flanders unit who treated mom with such love, dignity, and compassion. Eleanor will be deeply missed by the many family members and friends whose lives she touched.
A visitation will be held at Lahaie & Sullivan Cornwall Funeral Homes, West Branch, 20 Seventh Street W., (613-932-8482) on Sunday February 8, 2026 from 9:00 AM until time of service. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 11:00 AM in the Memorial Chapel of the funeral home and a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you please donate to the Lung Association to honor the memory of Eleanor.
