Georges Pommier passed away peacefully in his sleep, in his 99th year, on June 2, 2026 at Ted Laurier Place. A longtime resident of Cornwall, Ontario, Georges will be remembered with deep respect and enduring affection by all who had the privilege to know him. What a wonderful life he had. Born in Rockland, his family moved to Cornwall in 1937. His father Armand married Mabel (née Racicot), and together they raised a family of six. Georges grew up alongside his siblings Yvette, Jean, Renée, Marcel, and Hélène.
Notre père était un homme extraordinaire. Un bon businessman, un bon papa et grand-papa, un bon ami et notre héros. Un bel example pour nous tous. Toujours un “Gentleman”. Georges was owner of Pommier Jewellers, established in Cornwall in 1937. Through his steady presence and thoughtful care, he served the Cornwall community with a quiet professionalism and genuine warmth. In both business and daily life, Georges was known for his kind heart, his easy manner, and a rare, non-judgemental grace that made others feel welcome and at ease. Dad embraced life with an enthusiasm and joie de vivre. He was a devoted businessman and dedicated community member.
He was the beloved husband of the late Jacqueline “Jackie” (née Dion) Pommier, and a devoted family man. He was the cherished father of Rosanne (late Les Brown) of Rupert QC, Maryse (Tim) of St. Andrew's West, and André (France) of Long Sault. He was a proud grandpapa of Jeremy, Michael (Laura), Nicholas (Cat), Jacqueline, Jade, Bianca, and great grandpapa of Phoebe. Dear companion of the late Gysèle Poirier.
Notre père adorait le Lac Coeur. Quels souvenirs… son fameux Martini en main au bout du quai. Dad could often be found at the cottage at Heart Lake, a special place that is the heart of countless family memories. Lac Coeur was more than a retreat—it was a gathering place where generations connected and where lifelong traditions were created. Surrounded by nature and those he loved most, he found peace and laughter. Surely we will find his essence there…
Our Dad had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and an adventurous spirit that kept him active throughout his life. Dad was an avid skier who eagerly looked forward to the time spent on the slopes. He had style! Un skieur incroyable! Golf was another passion; a proud Lifetime Member of the Cornwall Golf and Country Club for over 50 years. He was often found at the club with his golf buddies. He loved fishing and hunting, finding joy in nature’s beauty and the camaraderie of those who shared these passions with him.
Whether on the golf course, the ski hill, or by the water, Dad treasured the companionship of family and friends, and many of his happiest moments were spent in their company. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered. The memories he created will be cherished for generations to come. La Légende nous manque déjà. Surely, his journey continues… Till we meet again!
The family extends its sincere gratitude to the staff of Château Cornwall, where Georges enjoyed nearly a decade of friendship, comfort, and excellent care prior to his recent move.
The family will receive friends at Lahaie & Sullivan Cornwall Funeral Homes West Branch (613- 932-8482) from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday June 22nd. A Celebration of Life will take Place at St. Francis de Sales Parish on Tuesday June 23, 2026 at 11 a.m. As expressions of sympathy donations to the Cornwall Community Hospital, Ottawa Heart Institute or the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
