A caring, kind-hearted, and gentle woman, Grace carried a quiet warmth throughout her life that touched all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Grace was the beloved and devoted wife of Jack (George Jack Forsyth), and a loving mother to Gary Forsyth (Leigh) of Stirling, Greg Forsyth (Gail) of Pender Island, B.C., and Gail Jackson (Barry) of Monkland. She was a cherished grandmother to Kaeleigh, Brenna (Jason), Shane, Sam, Stanley, Sarah (Erik), Jerrit (Megan), and Hannah (Logan), and adored her great-grandchildren and their antics, Dawson, Charlotte, Abigail, and Bryanna.
She was the dear sister of Rita Teti (late Tony) of Oakville, Sadie Beales (late Alan), and Jean Edwards (John), both of England. She was the eldest daughter of the late Fred Marshall and the late Barbara Marshall (nee Gilbert). “Auntie Grace” will be dearly missed by her many nieces and nephews.
During World War II, as the eldest child, Grace took on responsibilities at a young age, including queuing for rationed food and helping her father collect scrap metal in support of the war effort.
Grace began her nursing career in Nottingham, England-a profession well suited to her compassionate and caring nature. She worked at Nottingham Hospital, the Elisabeth Bruyère Hospital, Winchester District Memorial Hospital and the Red Cross, where she especially enjoyed caring for the geriatric community.
Grace and Jack met on a blind date, fell in love, and were married on June 8, 1957. After the birth of their first son, Gary, they crossed the Atlantic to settle in Trenton, where Greg and Gail were born. Together, they built a full and meaningful life shaped by military postings, living in England, France, Belgium, Germany, and eventually returning to Canada.
While living in Berwick, Grace was an active and valued member of the community, always willing to volunteer her time wherever it was needed. She had a special fondness for all the children in Berwick and, as a nurse, lovingly tended to many of their bumps and bruises over the years—especially the Beehler boys.
A talented and creative woman, Grace enjoyed playing the piano, singing, knitting, sewing, crocheting, and quilting, often with a cup of tea by her side.
When she and Jack were no longer able to live independently, Grace moved to Sandfield Place, and Jack joined her a few years later so they could be together again.
Jack passed away in February of 2026, and Grace followed in April. Their love and devotion to one another were immeasurable. Reunited once more, they can now celebrate their 69th wedding anniversary-- a love that all began with a simple blind date.
Grace will be remembered with deep respect and enduring affection, for a life marked by kindness, grace, and a gentle devotion to family, community, and the dignity of others.
