Joan Ray passed away peacefully, at Ted Laurier Place on October 21, 2026, at the age of 80. Beloved wife of Gordon Ray for 55 years. Cherished mother of Robert Ray (Karen) and Derrick Ray, both of Cornwall. Proud grandmother of Chris, Shawn (Kate), Samantha (Steven), Devin, and Zachary, and great-grandmother of Haleigh, Ryleigh, Jaxson, Emry, Carter, Cooper, Bentleigh, Parker, Aubree and Robbie. Joan was predeceased by her parents, John Mallers and Loretta (née Cholette) Mallers, and by her brother, Freddie Mallers.
Joan found genuine enjoyment in life’s familiar comforts—especially watching sports, faithfully cheering for the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Toronto Blue Jays, and spending time playing cards. Those who loved her will also remember a woman who could be set in her ways, yet whose steady devotion spoke clearly through the care she showed and the pride she took in her family, particularly her grandchildren. In all things, Joan carried herself with a sense of fairness that shaped how she approached others and the world around her.
The family will be in attendance at Lahaie & Sullivan Cornwall Funeral Homes West Branch, 20 Seventh Street West (613-932-8482), from 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 29th until the time of Service. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, October 29, 2026, in the Memorial Chapel of the Funeral Home at 12 noon. Interment, Notre Dame Cemetery to follow. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family. Messages of condolence may be left at www.lahaiesullivan.ca.
