Marcello "Mooch" Delgreco

Survived by the love of his life Jane “Jean” Delgreco (née McLellan) for over 63 years.

Loving father of Lori Delgreco (Mike Pilgrim), Lawrence “Larry” Delgreco (Cindy), Joanne Murphy (Timothy), and Debbie Pearson (Scott). Treasured Grandpa of Kenton, Tanner, Jasmin, Luca, Nico, Wade, Brielle and Cole. Special Grandpa to Stephanie, Kristen, Chase and Trinity. Proud Great-Grandpa of Callahan and special Great-Grandpa to Mia, Maci and Blake.

Dear brother of Lora (late Dave) and brother-in-law of Joe (Myrna). Beloved uncle of many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his parents, Enea Lorenzo and Maria (née Rovazzi) Delgreco; his sisters Rina (late Ubaldo) and Eda (late Ross); his parents-in-law John "Jack" and Mabel (nee Dunn) McLellan; his brother-in-law Allan (late Jean); and sister-in-law Joan (late Bill).

Born in the village of Patrica, Frosinone, Italy, Marcello came to Canada with his family aboard the SS Rex in 1939, on its final transatlantic voyage before the outbreak of the Second World War. The family settled in Thor Lake, Ontario, where Marcello began building the life and legacy that would become his own.

At just 18 years of age, Marcello began his long and distinguished career with Canadian National Railway as a conductor. Over the course of his 35-year career, he advanced into labour relations and travelled throughout Canada in his work, ultimately retiring in 1992 as Director of Labour Relations.

Marcello "Mooch" and Jean began their family life in Capreol, Ontario, where they raised their young family before their journey took them to Montreal, and eventually through further stops in Edmonton and Toronto. Their final stop was Cornwall, Ontario, where, while Marcello continued working in Montreal, they settled as a family with their children now in their teenage years. Cornwall became the place they would ultimately call home and where Marcello and Jean would enjoy their retirement years.

Family, community and friendship were always at the heart of their lives. Even after retirement, Marcello remained active and engaged in the community. He enjoyed playing bridge with the Martintown Bridge Group and the Cornwall Senior Bridge Club, and spent many years curling with the Cornwall Curling Club.

Marcello was a generous and caring member of his community, with a deep belief in the growth and future of Cornwall. He was proud to support the community he called home, contributing generously to local sports, charities, his church and other community causes. He believed in giving back and helping make Cornwall a stronger and more vibrant place for families and future generations.

Marcello will be remembered for his love of family, his dedication to his career, his friendships and the many special moments spent cheering on his grandchildren. He made a lifetime of memories.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Cornwall Community Hospital for the compassionate care and kindness shown to Marcello and his family during his final days. A special thank you to Dr Yu and Rachel for their exceptional compassion and support, and to the Cornwall Paramedics for their care and assistance.

Family will be in attendance at Lahaie and Sullivan – West Branch, 20 Seventh Street West, Tuesday, October 6, 2026, between the hours of 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

A Funeral Mass will take place at St. Francis de Sales Parish, 434 Second Street West, on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.

As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute or Breast Cancer Canada would be appreciated by the family.
