William John Hope

William (Bill) John Hope died peacefully on June 20th, 2026 at the Cornwall Community Hospital at the age of 86 surrounded by the adoring family he built with his loving wife of 64 years, Beverley Hope (nee Waldroff).

Bill was the eldest son of the late John Hope and the late Irene Alguire (late Allan Alguire) and proud father of his 3 children Carolyn Hope (Phillip Laplante), Murray Hope (Nicole nee Mitchell) and Lori Greer (Graham).

Gramps always enjoyed hearing the exploits of his 5 grandchildren, Matthew (Katie), Kayla (Tommy), Kevin, Liam (Sara) and Ben (Kat) and his 7 great grandchildren were the light of his life.

Bill was brother to Barbara Delo (late Ross), Becky Brownell (late Orval), late Dean Alguire (Dorothy), Donna Seguin (Gerald), late Perry Alguire, Phillip Alguire (Heather) and Margie Ainslie (Steve).

Bill grew up farming on Tollgate Road but eventually went on to a celebrated career as a Cornwall fire fighter before retiring as Fire Prevention Officer with 30 years of service. He was a dedicated Mason and Shriner and proud lifelong member of St. John’s Presbyterian Church in Cornwall, faithfully watching their services online with Beverley every Sunday in his final years from the home he lived in for the greater part of his life.

His family would like to extend their warmest gratitude for the excellent homecare Bill received over the last few years from the wonderful PSWs at Paramed Cornwall and the dedicated nurses of Bayshore Home Care and would also like to commend the incredible nurses and doctors who guided them through Bill’s final weeks and hours in the Janet MacDonell Pavillion at the Cornwall Community Hospital. Beverley also extends a special thanks to Rev. Robert Adams for his words of comfort through a trying time.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Lahaie & Sullivan West Branch (613-932-8482). Visitation will be held at 20 Seventh Street West on Monday, June 29, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service. A Memorial Service will be held in the West Branch Chapel (20 Seventh Street West) on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at 2:00 p.m.
