It is with profound sadness that the family announces the passing of William R. “Wariienton” Thompson at Tsi Ion Kwa Nonh So’te Long Term Care Home in Akwesasne on Saturday August 8, 2026, at the age of 86.
Beloved partner of the late Frances Benedict (née Jones).
Survived by his chosen children: Francine Benedict (Greg Saj), late Lawrence Benedict (late Karen), Thomas Benedict (Kateri), Robert Benedict (late Fernande) and Patrick Benedict (Cheryl). His chosen grandchildren Lesia Thompson, Robert Thompson, Elaine Thompson, Jason Thompson, Clifford Benedict, Clayton Benedict, late Christopher Benedict, Maryann Benedict, Robert Benedict, Crystal Benedict, Alicia Herne, Kyle Benedict, Brandon Benedict, and Katie Krein; 49 chosen great grandchildren and many chosen great great grandchildren.
He will be dearly missed by his close friend Peter Back (late Josie)
Predeceased by his parents Joe and Margaret (née Leaf) Thompson; as well as his grandfather Teion’kwatoronni and his aunt Agnes Leaf, who both helped in raising William.
Family will be in attendance at LAHAIE AND SULLIVAN WEST BRANCH, 20 SEVENTH STREET W, CORNWALL (613-932-8482) on Wednesday August 12, 2026, between the hours of 2:00PM to 4:00PM and 7:00PM to 9:00PM
As well as on Thursday August 13, 2026, between the hours of 9:00AM to 11:00AM prior to a Funeral Service that will be held in the Memorial Chapel of the Funeral Home at 11:00AM.
Cremation to follow.
