Byung graduated from Severance (Yonsei) University College of Medicine, came to the US in 1954 for residency at Case Western Reserve University, OH. Upon return to Korea, he became a Neuropathology Professor and Dean at Yonsei University College of Medicine. After emigrating to the US, he completed his doctoral studies at State University of NY, Albany, then devoted his life to teaching and research as a Neuropathology Professor at St. Louis University, University of Rochester and University of CA, Irvine Medical School (UCI). As Faculty Emeritus at UCI, he continued to teach neuropathology to students for 10 years after his retirement.
He lived a life of faith at Bethel Church in Irvine, CA.
