Chi-Hung Lin passed away peacefully in Irvine, California on February 2, 2019 at the age of 75. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. After graduating from National Taiwan University, he attended the University of Illinois to pursue his Ph.D. in chemical engineering. He spent his career working at Amoco Corporation developing new plastics. He liked to tell his children that he developed the plastic for the Chevy Cavalier bumper as well as the thin plastic film wrapping many products. During that time, he resided in Wheaton, Illinois, and was very active in the Chinese Christian Mandarin Church located in Hinsdale, Illinois. He also was the principal of the Mandarin language school located at the church. After retirement, he moved to Springfield, Illinois and then Baltimore, Maryland to help care for his grandchildren, Max and Jackson. In Baltimore, Chi continued his longtime interest in gardening and had an incredible vegetable patch that he tended with patience and care. He and his wife Betty relocated to Irvine, California in 2009 to enjoy the good weather and company of their many friends in the area. They became members of Irvine Canaan Christian Community Church. Chi always cherished the simple things in life, such as spending time with family and friends, gardening, and the fellowship of his church.
After decades of living with Parkinson’s Disease, he succumbed to related complications. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Betty, and his three daughters, Sandra, Sherry and Sara. He was a loving grandfather to Jackson, Max, Anka, Izar, and Benjamin. He is also survived by his brother, sisters, and many nieces and nephews in Taipei, Taiwan.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at the Pacific View Memorial Park (3500 Pacific View Drive, Corona Del Mar, CA 92635) on Sunday March 3, 2019 at 2:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Chi Lin to the Michael J. Fox Parkinson’s Foundation (michaeljfox.org).
